Floating in the middle of the page is a happy butterfly with big sparkly eyes, a wide smile and curly antennae, and all four of its wings are decorated with hearts. Each wing holds one large heart in the center, ringed by smaller hearts and little round dots, so kids have lots of shapes to fill in. Two fluffy clouds sit at the top, and below the butterfly a grassy hill is dotted with tulips, daisies and small tufts of grass. Younger children will like the large wing sections and daisy petals, while the tiny hearts give older kids some detail work. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big yellow areas: fill the head, the thorax and both upper and lower wings with sunny yellow, leaving the daisy centers and tiny details for later.
- 2Color the wing edges and the wide border areas of the upper wings with tangerine and amber orange, then add lavender purple along the outer wing tips and the top edges.
- 3Fill the big hearts on the wings and the small hearts with rose pink and hot pink, and color the body stripes in lavender purple and amber orange with the tip in salmon coral.
- 4Paint the meadow: use lime green for the hill and grass, leaf green and forest green for the leaves and stems, and sky blue for the left cloud.
- 5Finish the flowers and tulips: make the tulips bright red, rose pink and deep purple, color the daisy centers sunny yellow, and leave the daisy petals white. Optional: add a little shading in a darker shade of each color to make the wings look fuller.
