Campfire Marshmallows with Baby Squirtle
Coloring guide
Seated on a log, a smiling baby turtle with a big spiral shell and a pointed crest on its head holds a marshmallow on a stick over a crackling campfire. Logs are stacked in the fire, and round stones ring it. Behind the turtle, a lake, far-off mountains, tall pine trees and a cratered full moon fill the starry night sky. A canvas tent sits at the right edge. Down in the lower left, a buckled backpack and a little lantern rest among leafy bushes and grass tufts. This free printable leaves lots of room for different crayon strokes. Bright orange and yellow flames, a deep blue sky, and a swirl of greens and light browns on the shell would all look good, and kids can add warm glowing touches around the fire. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big green areas: fill the turtle's head, body, arms and feet, plus the grass and bushes, in grass green.
- 2Color the pine trees and the leafy bushes in forest green, leaving small gaps so the lighter grass still shows through.
- 3Paint the lake in sky blue and the mountains in royal blue, with a touch of slate gray on the shadowed mountain slopes.
- 4Color the turtle's belly and the lower shell panel butter yellow, and fill the shell rim and outer bands in wood brown, with the spiral center in caramel tan.
- 5Make the tent tangerine orange with burnt orange on its shaded side, the backpack cherry red, and the rocks and fire ring stone gray.
- 6Finish the fire with amber and golden yellow flames and pale yellow at the hottest tips, then leave the marshmallow and the turtle's eye whites white. Optional: add a little darker shading under the turtle and along the logs for depth.
