A gentle whale with big round eyes and a soft smile glides through the water, tail curved up behind it and long throat pleats drawn in tidy lines. Dots decorate the head, tail and flippers, and small bubbles float overhead. Striped angelfish and lots of tiny fish swim in the open water around it. The seafloor along the bottom is packed with detail: wavy seaweed, branching coral, tube sponges, a round brain coral, a scallop shell, spiral snail shells and two starfish resting on the sand. A wavy line across the top shows where the water ends. Little ones can start with the big whale, and older kids will have fun with the busy reef. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the whale: color the whale's body and tail in ocean blue, leaving the eye and its white shine untouched.
- 2Fill the whale's belly stripes, jaw, and front fin with pale blue, then add the lower fin in ocean blue.
- 3Color the seaweed and kelp on both sides in leaf green, with a few light green strands for variety.
- 4Add the angelfish and seafloor details: lemon yellow on the top angelfish's head, orange on the tube sponges and scallop shells, and pink on the conch shells.
- 5Fill the sand, purple shell, and starfish areas with light sand, lavender, and golden yellow, leaving the small white highlights on the coral and background water unpainted.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker blue along the bottom edge of the whale for depth.
