Smiling Whale Hanging Out With Jellyfish Underwater

In the middle of this ocean scene, a big friendly whale swims with a curved tail and a cheerful smile, tilting its body like it's saying hello. Long curved stripes cover the belly, and a few small dots sit near the head and tail. Three little smiling jellyfish with wavy tentacles float nearby, at the top right, lower left and bottom right. Straight sunbeams reach down from the wavy water line at the top, and round bubbles drift through the water. Seaweed and rounded rocks line the sea floor. Those belly stripes are great for practicing neat, careful coloring. Try soft blues on the whale and pale pink or lavender on the jellyfish. Download this free page to add to your growing stack. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the whale's body and its big fin with ocean blue, leaving the eye, the smile line and the small spots on its back white.
- 2Color the patch near the whale's tail with soft yellow.
- 3Paint the three jellyfish bells lavender purple, then add rose pink to the mouth of the left jellyfish.
- 4Color the seaweed with sea green and the bottom-right seaweed and the jellyfish tentacles at the bottom with sky blue, then fill the sandy mound with golden yellow.
- 5Add pale aqua to the bubbles scattered around and to the lighter belly area under the whale.
- 6Optional: add a few darker blue strokes along the whale's belly and under the fin to give it some depth.
