Curious Little Dinosaur and a Butterfly in the Grass

Up on its hind legs in a grassy meadow, a small feathered dinosaur gazes at the butterfly that has settled on the tip of its snout. It has a big round eye, a gentle smile, fluffy feathers along the head and neck, and one large feathered wing or arm lifted behind it. The clawed feet and hands are drawn in plenty of detail. Tall blades of grass fill the background, and a few daisy-like flowers with round centers bloom on both sides. Big feather shapes and open spaces are great for kids who like coloring in careful sections. Soft teal and green feathers with an orange and yellow butterfly would make the butterfly stand out against the dinosaur. This free printable works well for quiet time at home or in the classroom. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the dinosaur's body, neck and head with amber, leaving the big eye white with its black pupil.
- 2Color the upper wing feathers and the tail with golden yellow, then the lower wing feathers with tangerine.
- 3Paint the legs with tangerine and the toes and feet with light apricot, then add charcoal gray claws and a soft cream belly patch.
- 4Give the butterfly sky blue on its upper wing, soft cream on the middle sections and golden yellow on the lower wing, keeping the small spots white.
- 5Color the grass with leaf green and add pale mint on the lighter blades, then fill the flower centers with golden yellow and keep the petals white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker amber strokes along the body edges to give the dinosaur a bit of shading.
