In this close-up portrait, a friendly peacock looks off to one side with big sparkly eyes, long lashes and a gently curved beak. Five fan-shaped plumes on thin stems make a crest on its head. The long neck is covered in rows of rounded scales, a calm spot for kids who enjoy coloring small shapes one by one. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the head and neck: fill the head top and upper neck in royal blue, and fill the cream patch around the eye with cream.
- 2Color the big feathers on both sides in leaf green, then fill the eye rings on each feather with golden yellow.
- 3Fill the centers inside the feather eyes with navy blue, and leave the thin feather strips and spines on the feathers uncolored for a fine-line look.
- 4Color the scale rows on the neck and chest by alternating sky blue, turquoise, emerald green, and aqua green, working from top to bottom.
- 5Paint the crest tufts in sky blue and keep the thin crest stalks white. Fill the beak in amber and leave the eye white uncolored.
- 6Optional: add a few darker ocean blue or teal strokes on some scales for depth, and keep the highlights white.
