A big, gentle horse with a long flowing mane walks toward you down a pebbly dirt path, pulling a wooden wagon heaped with pumpkins over loose hay. It wears a full harness with bridle, collar and straps, and has feathery fur around the hooves. Farther back you'll see a classic barn with a cupola and weathervane, a wooden fence, rolling hills, leafy trees and puffy clouds. Wildflowers and grass tufts fill the corners. It's a nice fit for autumn lessons, harvest activities or any kid who loves farm animals. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky and distant trees: color the sky blue and the tree leaves dark green, leaving the fluffy clouds white.
- 2Fill the horse's body, neck, legs and face with caramel brown, then color the muzzle cream and keep the eyes as white highlights.
- 3Color the mane and tail light beige, and the harness straps and bridle dark brown.
- 4Paint the barn walls and wagon sides barn red, the roof blue gray, and the wagon wheels and hooves warm gray.
- 5Add the pumpkins in pumpkin orange and the hay olive green, then fill the grass and bushes with lime green and the dirt path light beige.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker brown shading along the horse's legs and under the harness to make it look rounder.
