Mother duck is out for a happy stroll through a rainy meadow, and three ducklings follow her in a line, each with an open umbrella. Rain falls from above and the little ones waddle along in tiny boots. Two puddles sit up front, with tufts of grass, small bushes and leafy plants beside the path. Mom has a big smile, a curled feather on her head and an open beak, like she's quacking a cheerful tune. The outlines are large and clear, which suits preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the page is free to print. Bright yellow is an obvious pick for the ducks, with a different bold color on each umbrella and light blue for the puddles and rain. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big yellow areas: color the mother duck's body and wing and the three ducklings' bodies, wings and heads with golden yellow, leaving the eye whites and the little beak teeth white.
- 2Color the beaks and all the webbed feet of the mother duck and the ducklings with bright orange.
- 3Fill the three umbrellas: tomato red on the left, sky blue in the middle and soft purple on the right, adding a small coral red tip to the left one.
- 4Paint the puddles with pale blue, leaving a little white near the edges to suggest shine, then color the bush behind the duck and the grass tufts with leaf green.
- 5Color the bush on the far right with forest green so it blends into the background.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker shade of each color along one side of the ducks and umbrellas for a bit of depth.
