Up on a grassy hill sits a three-towered castle, with a cobblestone path winding up to its big arched wooden door and two round ring handles. Each cone-shaped tower has a scalloped, shingle-style roof and a waving flag on top. The arched windows and stone brick walls are drawn in fine detail, and crenellated battlements run across the front. Bushes, two small pine trees, rolling hills, puffy clouds, and lots of little stars fill in around the castle. Small flowers, grass tufts, and rocks dot the lawn in front, and a frame of flowers, leaves, and curling vines surrounds the whole scene. There are plenty of small spaces, so older kids who like detail will enjoy it, and you can print it free as a PDF. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky blue patches on the small battlements and the distant hills behind the castle, leaving the clouds white.
- 2Color the castle walls and towers light gray, leaving the window spaces for later.
- 3Fill the tall roofs with violet purple and lilac scales, and color the flags red.
- 4Color the bushes and grass lime green and grass green, the hills teal green, and the pine trees emerald green and forest green.
- 5Use tan for the stepping stones on the path, stone gray for the rocks, and wood brown for the door, finishing with cream for the door arch and frame and coral pink for the flower frame.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the lower walls and roofs to make the castle look more three-dimensional.
