Family Bike Ride Down a Country Path, Earth Day

A man, a woman and two children pedal side by side along a winding dirt path, all smiling. Everyone has a bike helmet, a simple short-sleeved T-shirt and sneakers, and the woman's ponytail swings out behind her. The kids ride smaller bikes up front with the grown-ups close behind. Along the trail you'll see daisy-style flowers and tall grass, big leafy trees on both sides, a calm lake, and a small village with a church steeple against rolling hills far away. The shapes are fairly large, which works for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and it's a nice free printable for an Earth Day lesson about getting around without a car. Bright greens suit the trees and grass, and a different helmet color for each rider helps everyone stand out. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background: fill the tree leaves, bushes and grass with grass green and lime green, leaving the path white.
- 2Color the mountains and far trees teal green, and the river water sky blue, adding light aqua near the shore.
- 3Fill the dad's shirt with royal blue, the boy's shirt with golden yellow, the mom's shirt with rose pink, and the girl's shirt with light violet.
- 4Color the tree trunk and the bike seat khaki tan, and the bike wheels dark gray, keeping the path as plain white paper.
- 5Use peach skin for faces, arms and legs, and chocolate brown for the mom's ponytail and girl's ponytail.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the grass and the shirts to make the scene feel more three-dimensional.
