Hiking Family on a Mountain Trail with Poles

Coloring guide
Four smiling hikers follow a winding dirt path through the mountains. There's a woman with a ponytail, a man with short spiky hair, a young girl with a ponytail, and a boy walking out front. All of them wear backpacks with chest straps and carry trekking poles. The kids are in short sleeves, shorts and chunky hiking boots, and the adults have long-sleeved tops. Jagged peaks rise over a few pine trees behind them while the trail curves away into the distance. In the foreground you'll find daisy-like flowers, tall flower spikes and tufts of grass. Boots, backpacks and petals give small hands lots to work on. Orange or red backpacks would help the hikers pop against green hillsides and gray-blue mountains. A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- sandy tan
- pale sky blue
- lime green
- light peach
- bright blue
- turquoise
- bright red
- chocolate brown
- light pink
- leaf green
- warm brown
- slate blue
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big sky-and-mountain areas: color the distant mountains and the top peaks pale sky blue, and leave the sky and the snowy highlights white.
- 2Fill the grass, bushes and trees with lime green, leaf green and forest green, varying the shades so the hillside feels full.
- 3Color the dirt trail and the sandy shorts with sandy tan, and add chocolate brown to the boy's hair and warm brown to the man's hair and the girl's ponytail.
- 4Paint the clothes next: bright blue for the man's shirt, turquoise for the woman's shirt, bright red for the boy's shirt, and light pink with soft purple for the girl's top and shorts.
- 5Fill the skin areas with light peach and the backpacks with dusty rose or bright blue accents, then finish with the small flowers and the trail stones in yellow green.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading under the trees and along the shadowed side of the mountains to give the scene some depth.
