Fishing Squirtle on a Wooden Dock
Coloring guide
Sitting at the edge of a wooden dock, this smiling little turtle-like character holds a fishing rod with both hands. It has a spiral-patterned shell, a tall fin-shaped crest on its head, and spotted feet hanging over the water. The line drops to a round bobber on the ripples, and a small big-eyed fish pops up close by. Wooden posts rise from the water, and cattails and rounded bushes line the shore behind. Wavy water lines fill the bottom half of the page. Soft greens work well for the shell and skin, the bobber can be red and white, and layers of blue and teal suit the pond. Little kids will manage the big shapes and spiral shell easily, while older kids can blend colors in the water. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big water areas: color the lake water and the splashes around the dock posts in sky blue, leaving the thin wave lines white.
- 2Fill the turtle's head, arms, legs and body in light green, then add the belly and the little belly patches in golden yellow.
- 3Color the wooden dock, posts and beams in warm brown and tan brown, keeping the lighter plank highlights white.
- 4Paint the shell in leaf green with the spiral in lemon yellow, and use forest green for the darkest shell edges. Add the grass and bushes in leaf green and forest green.
- 5Color the head fin, the fish and the fins on the fish in orange, then make the fishing bobber bright red with its top left white and the reel silver gray.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading in the shell and the water to make the drawing feel more lively.
