A round-eyed baby chick peeks out of a cracked eggshell with its little feathered paws on the jagged edge. The top half of the shell is tipped on its head like a hat. The chick has an open, smiling beak and a tiny tongue. Shaggy tufts of fluff around the face and chest give young colorers lots of texture. Around the bottom of the egg you'll see three daisy-style flowers with grassy leaves: two taller ones at the sides and a small one in front. The big, smooth egg leaves roomy space for patterns, polka dots or stripes. Soft yellow feathers and a bright orange beak look sweet, and pastel purple or pink suits the petals. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big sky blue areas: color the top eggshell half and the bottom egg shell in sky blue, leaving the thin background gap uncolored.
- 2Fill the chick head, body and both wings with lemon yellow, keeping the eye whites white.
- 3Color the beak apricot orange and the open mouth soft pink.
- 4Paint the flower petals soft pink and the flower centers lemon yellow, then color the small flower petals lavender purple with lemon yellow centers.
- 5Color the grass leaves leaf green, and leave the bottom grass and background areas white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker yellow shading along the lower edges of the wings and head to make the chick look fluffy.
