At the open door of a big school bus, four kids with backpacks wait their turn, and the girl at the front is already heading up the steps. She has a ponytail and a pleated skirt, and she grips the handrail as she climbs. Behind her stand a short-haired boy, a girl with a headband and skirt, and a curly-haired child, all looking toward the door. The smiling driver leans out his window in a uniform cap and tie and waves hello. A leafy tree and a few tufts of grass sit behind the bus on the left. There's lots of room for creative choices, so try bright yellow for the bus and a different color for every backpack. This free printable suits preschoolers and early elementary kids, and it's a nice way to start a chat about bus safety and taking turns. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big bus body: color the whole bus, roof, and side panels in golden yellow, leaving the small highlight areas white.
- 2Fill the windows with light blue, and color the windshield and door glass in steel blue for a bit of depth.
- 3Color the tree leaves in lime green and the tree trunk in chestnut brown, then add grass green to the low bushes.
- 4Color the kids' clothes: denim blue pants, forest green and lime green jackets, lavender purple and sky blue backpacks, coral pink skirt, and bright red shirt; leave the boy's shirt and the girl's top white.
- 5Add skin tones in light peach for faces, hands, and legs, and use caramel brown or dark brown for the hair.
- 6Finish with the road in light gray, the tires in charcoal gray, and the bus steps in charcoal gray. Optional: add a little darker shading under the bus and along the steps for depth.
