Skewered Fruit on a Flower Plate with Berries
Coloring guide
Three long fruit skewers lie side by side on a round, scalloped plate. Each stick has a strawberry at the top, then round grapes or berries and chunky pineapple pieces, with the wooden tips poking out at both ends. The plate has a wavy edge and a ring of small five-petal flowers around the rim. In the upper right, a ribbed cup holds a heap of mixed berries, including a big strawberry, bumpy raspberries or blackberries and round blueberries. Large shapes and clear outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, while the strawberry seeds and pineapple texture give older kids some detail. Red strawberries with green tops, golden yellow pineapple and purple grapes look good, and pink or blue flowers finish off the plate. It could fit a summer snack theme or a healthy eating lesson. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the large plate: fill the wide outer rim and the bowl with sky blue, leaving the inner circle of the plate cream white.
- 2Color the strawberries strawberry red, keeping the tiny seed dots and leafy tops for a later detail step.
- 3Fill the blueberries and the blueberries in the small bowl with royal blue, leaving a small white shine spot on each one.
- 4Color the grapes lime green and the pineapple chunks bright yellow.
- 5Color the skewer sticks light brown and leave the cream plate center white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker red shading on the strawberries and a touch of darker blue on the blueberries for depth.
