Look for two round eyes with shiny highlights, small curved eyebrows, and a little tongue peeking out of the mouth. Four teardrop seeds dot the inner flesh, while a thick rind with a thin inner border wraps around the bottom and left side. The background is plain white, and the big shapes and bold lines are friendly to preschoolers and early learners. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big red flesh of the slice, coloring everything inside the outline except the eye whites and the teeth, and keep the small shine spots in the eyes white.
- 2Fill the thick curved rind along the bottom and left side with leafy green, going around the inner edge of the red flesh.
- 3Color the tongue at the bottom of the open mouth with soft pink, leaving the teeth at the top of the mouth white.
- 4Add the dark brown seeds one by one: the two on the left and right sides, the one near the middle-left, the one on the lower right, and the one at the bottom.
- 5Leave the eye whites and their shine spots white, and finish by filling the pupils with a dark tone so the eyes look bright and cheerful.
- 6Optional: add a little darker red or green along the edges of the flesh and rind for a bit of depth.
