Sunset Beach Hammock Between Two Palm Trees

Two curved palm trees lean toward each other on a tiny sandy island, and a striped hammock is tied between their trunks, hanging low over the sand. Each tree has big feathery fronds and a small bunch of coconuts at the top. Behind the hammock a round sun sits on the horizon with short rays fanning out above, and a little sailboat floats on the wavy water to the right. Small clouds drift near the horizon on both sides. In front, a single coconut rests on the sand beside tufts of grass and a few little pebbles. The large fronds and wide sun are easy for small hands, and the wave lines and trunk stripes give older kids some detail work. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the ocean and the water around the hammock with sky blue, leaving the small wave lines and the sailboat white.
- 2Color the sandy island with pale sand, then add the little dots and the coconut on the beach in warm brown.
- 3Color the sun golden yellow and the middle hammock stripe golden yellow, then color the top and bottom hammock stripes coral red.
- 4Color both palm trunks, the coconuts and the ropes around the trunks warm brown, leaving the thin rings on the trunks as lighter lines if you like.
- 5Fill all the palm fronds and the grass tufts with leaf green, leaving the white highlights on the leaves.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the trunks and the sand edges to make the scene feel more sunny and dimensional.
