Palm Tree Hammock on a Quiet Beach
Coloring guide
Two leaning palm trees hold up a striped hammock tied on with chunky rope wraps, and it looks out over a calm ocean with a round sun just above the horizon. The larger palm on the left has big jagged fronds and a cluster of coconuts, and the smaller palm on the right has its own little bunch. Wavy lines mark the water and a few puffy clouds drift near the horizon. The sandy shore in front has a scallop shell, a couple of rocks, small dots of sand and tufts of grass at the base of the trunks. Large shapes and clean lines work for kids still building pencil control, and older kids can add detail. Rainbow hammock stripes against an orange sun and soft pink clouds would be lovely. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sea: color the water bands in ocean blue, leaving the thin white wave lines between them.
- 2Color the palm fronds in leaf green, including the small palm on the right, and leave the small white highlight on the top frond unpainted.
- 3Fill the trunks of both palms with warm brown, then color the two coconut clusters in coconut brown.
- 4Paint the hammock in bright red and orange stripes, leaving the white edges and the rope ends uncolored.
- 5Color the sun golden yellow, and add a soft pink seashell and stone gray pebbles on the sand.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading under the fronds and along one side of each trunk to give depth.
