Hands Holding an Earth Day Globe with a Tree

A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start by coloring the ocean areas of the globe with sky blue, leaving small gaps near the land edges.
2. 2Fill the continents, including the large land shapes on the left and right of the globe, with light green.
3. 3Color the tree crown with leaf green and the trunk with warm brown.
4. 4Add light green to the four leaves floating around the tree and the grassy hill on top of the globe, then use leaf green for the small grass tufts on each side.
5. 5Add sky blue to the lakes and inland sea shapes on the land, and color the globe's edge water to match.
6. 6Optional: Leave the small highlight spots on the thumbs white, and add a slightly darker shade of each color along one side for depth.
