Arms stretched wide and mouth open in a delighted grin, a cheerful baby hedgehog sits on top of a big heap of leaves. Maple-style and plain oval leaves drift through the air around it. On the right stands a large tree trunk with a scalloped, cloud-like canopy, a small bush behind it and a few grass tufts on the ground. The hedgehog has big sparkly eyes, a round nose, small ears, and a back drawn with lots of short pointed lines. The pile at the bottom is made of many overlapping veined leaves, which gives detail-loving kids plenty to do. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the hedgehog's belly, arms, legs, feet and face with pale beige, leaving the two eye whites and the small shine dots in the eyes white.
- 2Color the hedgehog's spines all over with chestnut brown, and fill the inner ear with peach and the open mouth with coral pink.
- 3Color the big maple leaf at the top left and the leaf on the left tree branch with maple red, and the small falling leaves with golden yellow and amber.
- 4Fill the leaf pile at the bottom with a mix of golden yellow, amber, orange, rust and maple red, changing colors from leaf to leaf.
- 5Color the tree trunk and branches with chestnut brown, and the tree leaves and leaves near the trunk with orange and amber.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading with a second shade of the same color at the edges of the leaves and spines to give them depth.
