Playful Squirrel Popping Out of a Leaf Pile

Arms flung wide and mouth open in a huge smile, this squirrel bursts up out of a big heap of fall leaves. Its bushy tail curls up behind it, and oak-style and pointed leaves float through the air near its head. A leaf rake leans against a large tree trunk on the right, with a few grassy tufts and low bushes in the background. Three acorns rest on the ground in the bottom corner. The leaf pile is split into lots of small sections, so kids who like detail will enjoy it, while the face and tail are easy to fill in. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the squirrel: fill the big bushy tail and the back with burnt orange, and leave the chest and belly cream.
- 2Color the pile of leaves using rust red, deep orange and bright orange, mixing them up so the pile looks warm and full.
- 3Add golden yellow and warm amber to the leaves scattered around the pile and on the ground, and use lemon yellow for the leaves floating in the air.
- 4Color the tree trunk dark brown, the top leaves forest green, the bush on the right light green, and the rake handle caramel brown with sky blue on the rake band.
- 5Fill the acorns with caramel brown, add coral pink inside the squirrel's ears, and leave the eyes and teeth white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of rust red on the shaded edges of the leaves to make the pile look deeper.
