A fluffy baby chick bursts out of a cracked eggshell, wings stretched wide and beak open in happy surprise. The top half of the shell sits on its head like a little hat, and jagged cracks run down the egg below. The egg rests in a nest of grass and straw, with tall blades curving up on both sides. At the bottom left blooms a big daisy-style flower with a dotted center, and three polka-dotted eggs sit at the bottom right. Thick, clean outlines and roomy shapes make this a good page for preschoolers and early elementary kids practicing staying inside the lines. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by filling the chick's head, body and both wings with golden yellow, leaving the eye whites and the small highlight on the wing white.
- 2Color the top eggshell cap and the cracked egg bottom with sky blue, including the left eggshell piece.
- 3Fill the beak with tangerine orange and the open mouth with coral red, leaving a small white shine if you like.
- 4Color the three spotted eggs: tangerine orange for the front one, lavender purple for the middle one and rose pink for the right one, leaving the dots white.
- 5Fill the grass and leaves with leaf green, then color the daisy center golden yellow and leave the daisy petals white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of the same colors along the edges of the egg and wings for a little depth.
