Here a heart-shaped hot air balloon drifts through the sky wearing a big happy face. It has round sparkly eyes, a cheeky smile with rosy cheeks, and curved vertical stripes that split it into easy sections. A woven basket hangs below from four ropes. Puffy clouds, three little birds in flight, and rolling hills with round bushes and a few simple trees fill out the rest of the page. The shapes are large and clean, which helps preschoolers and early elementary kids who are still building pencil control. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big balloon panels: color the center panel golden yellow, the left panel tangerine orange, the far left panel cherry red, the right panel leaf green, and the far right panel medium blue.
- 2Fill the grassy hills and the round trees with lime green, and use leaf green for the small bushes along the horizon. Add a forest green bush near the bottom of the trees for depth.
- 3Color the three fluffy clouds light blue, leaving the small cloud at the top right uncolored for a white accent.
- 4Color the basket with caramel brown for the woven lines and light tan for the rim at the top. Color the band under the balloon medium blue.
- 5Add the smiling mouth in coral pink. Keep the eye whites, the balloon top highlight, and the rope knobs white, then add black pupils and eyebrows.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the edges of each balloon panel to make the heart shape look rounder.
