Kids Building a Sandcastle on a Hawaiian Beach

Kneeling in the sand, a smiling boy and girl are putting together a tall sandcastle with towers, an arched doorway, little windows and a flag on top. The boy wears flower-print swim trunks and scoops sand with a small shovel. The girl, with a ponytail and a striped swimsuit, pats the castle wall. A bucket of sand sits beside them, and seashells, a spiral shell and a starfish are scattered across the beach in front. Farther back, gentle waves roll in, a sailboat floats on the water, birds fly past fluffy clouds, and a sun with rays shines above. A coconut palm and leafy plants frame the left side. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the sky, the small clouds and the right cloud with pale blue, leaving the sun, the sail and the top background white.
- 2Fill the sea and the waves with sky blue, and add a little turquoise near the shoreline for a splash of water.
- 3Color the sand, the castle walls and towers with sand yellow, and use ochre yellow for the castle gate arch.
- 4Paint the skin of the boy and girl peach, give the boy medium brown hair and the girl bright yellow hair and ponytail.
- 5Color the palm trunk and coconuts medium brown, and the leaves light green with leaf green on the lower bushes.
- 6Finish the details: bucket and boy's shorts in bright blue, the shovel in red, the girl's swimsuit with hot pink stripes, and the shells in coral orange. Optional: add a little golden brown shading to the sand for depth.
