Woodland Elf Sharing an Acorn with a Squirrel
Coloring guide
Beside a big oak tree, a smiling young elf with pointed ears kneels in the grass and holds out one acorn to a curious squirrel. The squirrel sits up on its hind legs, paws tucked in close, with a happy open-mouthed grin as it eyes the treat. The elf has a leafy crown, a cape of layered leaves fastened with a round brooch, a belt and soft boots. Oak branches with lobed leaves hang in the top corner, and fallen leaves and small grass tufts are scattered on the ground. Thick bark lines on the trunk leave lots of room for texture. Warm browns and soft grays suit the trunk and squirrel, while greens and golden yellows on the cape bring in an autumn feel. It's a free printable for kids who enjoy gentle animal scenes, and it works with crayons or colored pencils. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big areas: fill the elf's face, arms, and legs with peach skin, and the squirrel's tail and body with burnt orange.
- 2Color the elf's hair and headband leaves with golden yellow, then add the leaf-filled cape and tunic in leaf green and lime green.
- 3Fill the tree branches and the boots and belt with chestnut brown, and add dark green to the darkest cape leaves and shorts.
- 4Give the squirrel its pale cream chest and paws, color its inner ear soft pink, and make the acorn honey amber.
- 5Leave the tree trunk and background white so the figures stand out. Keep the eye whites and the tiny brooch shine white too.
- 6Optional: Add a slightly darker shade of each green on the underside of the cape leaves for a little depth.
