A tall striped lighthouse stands on a rugged rock out in the sea, with four seagulls gliding around it. Look for the lantern room on top, the railed balcony and three arched windows climbing the tower. A small cabin with a door sits next to the base, and leafy bushes poke out between the rocks. At the bottom, waves crash against the cliff and throw up splashes, while soft clouds and a faint hill sit near the horizon. The big open shapes are easy for little hands, and the rocks and waves give older kids extra detail. Red and white stripes on the tower with blue swirls in the waves make a nice contrast. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky: color the clouds on the left and right with sky blue, and leave the seagulls and open sky white.
- 2Fill the sea on both sides of the island with ocean blue, and color the waves at the bottom in the same blue.
- 3Color the big rocks of the island with stone gray, and use light gray for the shaded bottom part of the rocks.
- 4Paint the lighthouse tower bands in bright red, leaving the white stripes and the small house walls white, then add cream to the ledge under the lantern room.
- 5Color the roof of the small house and the lantern dome and railings in bright red, and add the green bushes with leaf green.
- 6Finish with the lantern glass in sky blue, the lamp light in golden yellow, and the splashes of water in pale blue.
