Log-Sitting Duck and Frog Pals

Sitting side by side on a fallen log at the edge of a pond, a smiling duckling and a happy frog share big, friendly eyes and open-mouthed grins. The duckling has a little tuft of feathers on its head, a wing tucked at its side and webbed feet resting on the bark. The frog next to it has spots on its body. Tall cattails and grass frame both sides. Down in the water, a small fish leaps up with splashes around it, and lily pads and a lotus-style flower float nearby. The log's wood grain and ring-shaped end are drawn with simple lines. Bright yellow for the duckling, green for the frog and warm browns for the log is an easy plan. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the duck's body, head and wings in sunny yellow, and the frog's body in pale lime, leaving the duck's eye shine and the background cloud white.
- 2Fill the duck's beak and feet with amber, and the fish's body and tail with bright orange, adding golden yellow to the fish's belly.
- 3Use lime green for the lily pads, the frog's legs and feet, and the grass tufts at the sides of the pond.
- 4Color the tall cattails and the log in warm brown, with sandy tan for the log's rings and end.
- 5Fill the reeds and bushes with forest green and leaf green, keeping the cattail highlights white.
- 6Finish with soft pink for the lotus flower and the frog's mouth, and sky blue for the water splashes and ripples. Optional: add a little darker green in the shaded parts of the bushes for depth.
