Mare Nuzzling Sleeping Foal in the Grass

A mare stands with her head lowered to touch noses with her tiny foal, who is curled up on the ground with eyes closed. The mother wears a simple halter and has a long flowing mane and tail. Her four slim legs stand among tufts of grass, and the foal rests with its legs folded and stretched out behind it. A few leafy branches hang in the top corner of the page. Lots of open space on the mare's body makes this a nice pick for practicing smooth, even coloring with crayons or colored pencils. For a learning idea, try coloring the mare a deep chestnut brown and the foal a lighter shade, then talk with kids about how baby horses rest close to their mothers. The printable page is easy for a wide range of ages.
