Perched on a branch, a mother bird leans over a woven twig nest with a long wiggly worm in her beak. Three fluffy chicks sit inside. The middle one tips its head back with its beak wide open, ready for the treat, while the two beside it look up with big round eyes. Flowers like apple blossoms, with five rounded petals, plus buds and pointed leaves, frame the scene in the corners, and small clouds drift in the background. There's lots of texture to enjoy: the criss-crossed twigs of the nest, the feather lines on the mother's wing and tail, and the soft fuzz on the chicks. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by coloring the bird's body, wings, tail and the three chicks in sky blue, leaving the eye whites and small shine spots white.
- 2Fill the woven nest bowl with tan, then add chocolate brown to the darker twigs and the shadowed edges of the nest.
- 3Color the tree branch at the bottom and on the right in chocolate brown, and fill the background grass patches in leaf green.
- 4Paint all the blossom petals in blush pink, keeping the little highlights on the flower edges white, and add hot pink to the buds at the top and right.
- 5Finish with leaf green on all the leaves, then add the tan and brown details on the nest twigs.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker blue along the bottom of the bird's wings and under the chicks for depth.
