Spring Tulip With Two Big Leaves

A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.

• grass green
• soft pink
• cherry red

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start with the tulip's top back petal at the very top of the flower and fill it with golden yellow.
2. 2Color the two outer petals on the left and right of the tulip with soft pink, leaving the center bud for later.
3. 3Fill the central tulip bud with cherry red so it stands out in the middle of the flower.
4. 4Use grass green for the long stem and both big leaves, keeping the thin lighter lines on the leaves uncolored as highlights.
5. 5Leave the small grass tufts at the bottom and the background white, then add a few light strokes in each color for a hand-drawn look.
6. 6Optional: Use short diagonal strokes in a slightly darker shade of each color to add a little texture to the petals and leaves.
