Mother Zebra and Her Foal Nuzzling on the Savanna

Coloring guide
A tall mother zebra dips her head to nuzzle her little foal, who looks up at her with big eyes and a sweet smile. Both have bold stripes, spiky upright manes and tufted tails, so the bodies and legs offer lots to color. A flat-topped acacia tree stands behind them on a softly rolling horizon, and grass tufts are scattered around their hooves. Large shapes and clear outlines keep this free printable easy for preschoolers, while the stripes give older kids a bit more to chew on. Soft browns and charcoal gray work nicely in place of black, with golden yellow for the grass and a warm green for the treetop. It would also suit Mother's Day or an animal unit. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the top of the acacia tree in grass green, leaving the trunk and branches white.
- 2Fill the inside of both mother and foal ears with soft pink, keeping the outer ear lines clean.
- 3Color the manes, hooves and the mother's tail tip with dark gray, and use black for the tail tip and a few dark stripes on the foal's legs.
- 4Add medium gray to the foal's muzzle and the mother's shadowed stripe along her chest, then use light gray for the foal's neck and a few patches on its body.
- 5Keep the eyes, the sky and the rest of the zebras' bodies white so the stripes stand out.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra black along the stripe edges for a bolder, more defined look.
