Muddy Elephant Calf Splashing in a Puddle

Sitting in a shallow puddle, this smiling baby elephant lifts its trunk and sprays water that flies out in droplets and splashes in every direction. It has big round eyes, floppy ears and a small tuft of hair on its head, and the tail tuft rests by the water's edge. Uneven patches of mud or spots are drawn over its head, ears, body and legs. A few small rocks and tufts of grass sit around the puddle, with big splash shapes on both sides of the page. The wide open areas on the ears and body are easy for little hands to fill in. Gray or blue for the elephant, light blue for the water and brown for the muddy patches is a simple plan. It prints at home free, and there's no sign-up. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by coloring the elephant's body, head, trunk and legs in light gray, leaving the eye whites and the toenails for later.
- 2Fill both ears and the inside of the right ear with blush pink, then color the open mouth in coral pink.
- 3Paint the puddle, all the water splashes and the small puddles in sky blue, going around the elephant's feet.
- 4Add chocolate brown mud spots on the head, cheek, body and legs, and color the tail tip in dark slate.
- 5Color the rocks in warm taupe and fill the toenails and front teeth with ivory cream.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker gray shading under the belly and legs to make the calf look rounder.
