A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.

• wood brown
• rust red
• peach skin
• sky blue
• golden yellow
• light blue
• dark brown
• cream
• tan

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Fill the star, the straw under the baby and the straw on the ground with golden yellow, leaving the sky background white.
2. 2Color Mary's dress in sky blue and her veil in light blue, then fill Joseph's robe and Mary's lower robe in rust red and tan as shown.
3. 3Color the roof beams, the stable posts, the manger and the shepherd's staff in wood brown.
4. 4Fill the faces, hands, arms and necks with peach skin, keeping the back wall white.
5. 5Color the baby's blanket in cream and fill Mary's hair, Joseph's beard and mustache in dark brown.
6. 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of rust red or wood brown on the robes and beams to give the drawing some depth.
