Seen from the side, this peacock has its tail spread behind it in a huge fan, and every feather carries its own oval eye pattern with several rings to fill in. The bird glances back over its shoulder. It has a small crest of round-tipped plumes, a gentle eye, and a pointed beak, and the wing and chest are drawn as rows of scalloped feathers. The garden around it includes a leafy tree branch at the top left, puffy clouds at the top right, blooming flowers and bushes along the bottom, and a small pond on the right with a lily pad and a flower. All the feather detail is best for older kids, teens, or adults with fine-tipped markers and colored pencils. Teal and emerald green could go in the middle of each feather eye, with deep blue and gold on the outer rings, and soft pink and yellow on the flowers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the peacock body and neck: fill the neck, chest and wing feathers with royal blue, leaving the small crest and head highlights white.
- 2Color the big fan of tail feathers with leaf green, and add emerald green to the feathers near the wing for a layered look.
- 3Fill the eye spots of the tail: use golden yellow for the outer rings and navy blue for the centers, keeping the tiny gaps between them white.
- 4Paint the garden: color the leaves and bushes with lime green and leaf green, add the pink flowers in coral pink, and fill the pond water with sky blue.
- 5Finish the pond rocks and the lower stones in medium gray and leave the background sky and the top branch leaves white.
- 6Optional: Add a little deep teal or steel blue on the darker wing feathers and tail edges to give the peacock more depth.
