At the base of a big apple tree, a smiling little piglet sits in the grass with its head tilted up, watching one apple drop through the air. Small motion lines show it falling. The tree has a thick trunk and scalloped leafy branches, with plenty of apples and leaves still hanging overhead. More apples lie on the ground around the pig, and a few grass tufts and a gently rolling hill fill in the background. Floppy ears, a round snout, a curly tail and a wide open-mouthed grin make it easy to see how happy the pig is. Big shapes and clear outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color all the apples in tomato red, including the apple at the bottom left and the falling apple, and leave the small highlights unpainted.
- 2Fill the pig's body, ears and cheeks with blush pink, then use coral pink for the snout.
- 3Color the leaves across the tree and the falling leaves in lime green, and use forest green for the darker leaves near the top apples and the bush on the hill.
- 4Paint the pig's hooves in chestnut brown and keep the tree trunk and the background white.
- 5Optional: add a slightly darker shade of blush pink along the pig's belly and under the ears for depth.
- 6Leave the pig's eye whites and the teeth white so the face pops.
