Pond-Side Baby Elephant Squirting a Big Water Arc
Coloring guide
At the edge of a pond, a smiling baby elephant swings its trunk high overhead and sprays a big arc of water that comes down in splashes and droplets. Its mouth is open in a happy grin, its eyes are wide and sparkly, and the tail ends in a little tuft. Lily pads float in the foreground along with one lotus-style flower in bloom. Tall cattail reeds frame both sides, and small grass tufts and rounded bushes sit behind the elephant. The large shapes and clear lines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, and all those water drops give small hands plenty of little spaces to fill. Sky blue for the splashes and pond looks lovely, with gentle gray or even lavender on the elephant. Print it at home for a classroom project or a weekend craft. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the trunk tip and the tongue soft pink, and the inside of the trunk light gray and soft pink, leaving the elephant's body and the water spray white.
- 2Fill the bushes, the grass patches, the lily pads, and the reeds with grass green, then add darker leaf green to the tall grass at the left and right edges.
- 3Color the cattails and their stalks warm brown, and the lotus flower coral pink, keeping the highlights and eye shines white.
- 4Color the toenails cream and the back leg and leg shadows light gray so the elephant looks like it is standing in shade.
- 5Optional: Color the tail tip charcoal gray and the small droplet at the top sky blue for a bit of contrast.
