Porthole Octopus in a Sunken Ship

Coloring guide
In this underwater scene, a cheerful octopus with big shiny eyes and an open smile sits in the middle of a round ship porthole. Its eight curly arms spread out, and the suckers are small circles that are fun to color one at a time. Broken wooden planks surround it, with a coiled rope in the top left corner and a tilted mast with netting in the top right. Small striped fish swim close by and bubbles float above. Along the bottom are two wooden barrels, a starfish, a shell and tall wavy seaweed at the edges. A soft purple or coral orange octopus will stand out against all that wood and seaweed. Grab the free PDF and print it at home for a classroom project or weekend craft. This fits right in with our Octopus coloring pages — see also Dragonfly and Giraffe.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the octopus head and all its tentacles in lavender purple, leaving the eye whites, the highlight dots and the smile's teeth white.
- 2Color the porthole rings and the rope-wrapped tentacle areas in slate blue, so the round frame stands out around the octopus.
- 3Fill the wooden planks, barrels and beams with warm brown, and the shipwreck background areas stay white.
- 4Use leaf green for the seaweed on both sides and pale yellow for the sandy seabed, adding golden yellow to the sand patches inside the porthole.
- 5Finish with coral pink on the little pink coral clusters and dusty periwinkle on the bottom pebble and small rock. Optional: add a little charcoal gray shading under the barrels for depth.
