Putting the Star on Top: Grinch-Style Creature on a Ladder

Standing on a wooden stepladder, a shaggy, big-eyed creature reaches both arms up to set a large star on the tip of a Christmas tree. The tree is packed with detail. Beaded garlands loop across the branches, round, teardrop and star-shaped ornaments hang between them (some with zigzag and wavy stripes), and small bows are tucked in as well. Three wrapped presents sit at the bottom, one with polka dots, one with diagonal stripes and a small one with a bow, along with a few tufts of grass. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big tree: color the branches and tree base with forest green, leaving the gaps between branches for the ornaments.
- 2Color the Grinch's body with yellow green on the legs and face, and the coat in bright red, leaving the fur trim, collar and cuffs white.
- 3Fill the ladder with wood brown on the sides and top, and light tan on the lower left leg, keeping the rungs and highlights white.
- 4Add the gift boxes: bright red and golden yellow on the left box, sky blue on the right boxes, and leaf green on the small box in front.
- 5Color the tree star and the star ornaments with golden yellow, then add the red and pale cream ornaments and the bows.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the tree branches and the ladder edges to give the picture more depth.
