High up in this rainforest scene, a smiling sloth hangs upside down from a leafy branch, long curved claws gripping the wood and shaggy fur falling down its arms and body. Beneath it, a toucan sits on another branch showing off a big curved beak, a round eye and layered wing feathers. Over in the lower right, a little frog with a spotted back rests on a large split monstera leaf. Hibiscus flowers fill the corners, and the background is crowded with vines, ferns and leafy plants, with a small waterfall in the distance. Big animals plus detailed leaves make this one good for kids who like to color for a while. Bright orange and yellow for the toucan's beak, soft browns for the sloth and vivid green for the frog would work well. Print it for classroom time or a rainy day. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky blue background behind the sloth and toucan, and the upper part of the jungle, leaving the waterfall for later.
- 2Color the sloth's fur and the tree branches warm brown, then fill its face with skin tan, keeping the eye whites bright white.
- 3Fill the toucan's body, wings and tail with charcoal black, and color its throat golden yellow, leaving the eye shine white.
- 4Color the toucan's beak with orange on top, tangerine in the middle and bright red at the bottom, and add the waterfall in pale blue.
- 5Fill the hibiscus flowers with bright red, the frog's head with lime green and its belly with pale yellow, then color the big leaves leaf green and the bushes forest green.
- 6Optional: add darker shading on the toucan's wings and the leaves to give the drawing more depth.
