Rose Garden Ladybug with a Picket Fence

Coloring guide
A polka-dotted ladybug with a big smile crawls across the petals of a large, open rose in this more detailed garden scene. A wooden picket fence stands behind the flower, in front of rows of fluffy, cloud-like bushes. A closed rosebud rises on a stem at the top right, and big serrated leaves surround the bloom. Small flowers with round centers fill the corners and bottom edge. The layered rose petals give plenty of curved sections to color, and the fence and bushes mean extra practice in smaller spaces. Soft pinks or deep reds would suit the rose, with a bright red shell and black dots on the ladybug and a mix of greens on the leaves. Download the free PDF for a screen-free activity at home. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big rose by coloring all the main petals in bright red, leaving the thin black lines as they are.
- 2Color the deeper inner petals at the center of the rose in deep red to create depth around the swirl.
- 3Fill the large leaves and the stem leaves with leaf green, and the stem with olive green.
- 4Paint the fence boards in wood tan and the bushes, grass and background greenery in light green.
- 5Color the ladybug shell in bright red and its head and antennae in light beige, keeping the dots and eye highlights white.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra leaf green on the shaded edges of the leaves for a bit of depth.
