Coloring guide
Sitting at the center, a big-eyed octopus grins wide with all eight curly tentacles spread out and lined with little oval suckers. One small striped fish swims in the upper right corner, and round bubbles in different sizes float around the octopus. Two clumps of wavy seaweed grow from small rocks on either side at the bottom. Large shapes and bold clean lines let younger children color inside without much trouble, and the curled tentacle tips and tiny suckers give older kids more to do. Purple or orange for the octopus, pink suckers, green seaweed and a brightly striped fish would be a fun combination. A free printable for a quiet afternoon or a classroom ocean unit. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the octopus head and all eight tentacles in lavender purple, leaving the sucker dots and eye whites white.
- 2Color the seaweed and the small seaweed patches in leaf green, then fill the two rocks at the bottom with light gray.
- 3Paint the fish body, top fin, side fin and tail in orange, and add light gray to the middle stripe while leaving the white stripe empty.
- 4Fill the bubbles in sky blue, keeping a little white inside each one for a shiny look.
- 5Color the small open mouth with soft pink for the tongue and deep rose for the lower mouth shape, keeping the eyes white with black pupils.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker purple along the edges of the tentacles to give the octopus some depth.
