Arctic Whale Visiting a Penguin and Seal on Ice

A friendly whale lifts its head out of the water with one big round eye and a smile, and a little spout puffs up behind it. On the left, a happy penguin stands on a flat block of ice, flippers down, beak open in a grin. On the right, a spotted seal pup lounges on another ice block and looks over with whiskers and a cheerful face. Pointed icebergs rise in the background, ripples and wavy lines fill the water, and more ice chunks sit in the bottom corners. Long curved lines on the whale's belly are fun to color. Soft sky blue for the whale and a deeper blue for the waves work well, and the ice can stay white or turn pale icy turquoise. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big whale body and its fins and tail in royal blue, leaving the eye highlight white.
- 2Color the seal and the spouting water with cool gray and aqua blue, keeping the seal's light spots and the water's highlights white.
- 3Fill the whale's belly and the penguin's belly area: use pale sky for the whale's underside and leave the penguin's belly white.
- 4Add ice blue to the icebergs and ice blocks, and ocean blue to the sea around the whale and the seal.
- 5Use charcoal black for the penguin's head, wings and flippers, then add a little ocean blue to the whale's mouth line.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of royal blue along the whale's back to give it a bit of depth.
