Snack Time for a Horse: Apple from a Hand

Coloring guide
This smiling young horse has sparkly eyes with long lashes and is taking a bite out of a round apple, with the little stem poking up just under its nose. A hand comes in from the bottom right corner holding a second apple with a stem, like a treat at snack time. The pointed ears have inner details, a wispy tuft of bangs hangs over the forehead and a long flowing mane falls down the left side. There's no background at all, so you get lots of white space for young colorists. Big shapes and bold outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the page is a free printable. Chestnut brown for the horse with a golden mane, plus red and green apples, will make the fruit stand out. Browse more Horses coloring pages, or explore Seahorse and Dragonfly for even more fun.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

- 2Color the long mane, forelock and right mane tuft with pale golden yellow, using gentle strokes that follow the hair lines.
- 3Add soft pink to the inside of both ears.
- 4Color both apples apple red, including the one in the horse's mouth and the one in the hand.
- 5Fill the hand and nostrils with peach, keeping the neck background white.
- 6Optional: Add a slightly darker caramel brown along the edge of the face and a little extra golden yellow in the shadowed parts of the mane for depth.
