Spotted Pig Splashing in a Muddy Puddle

This little pig is sitting right in the middle of a big mud puddle, grinning, with water splashing up around its body. It has large floppy ears, round shiny eyes, a wide open smile and a curly tail. Irregular patches cover its back, sides and head, so kids can fill them in as mud spots. Behind the pig is a wooden fence with round holes in the posts, and little tufts of grass grow along the bottom. Wavy lines in the puddle and a few drops in the air add to the splashy mood. Big shapes and bold lines make it a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Soft pink works for the pig, with rich brown for the patches and puddle and warm tan for the fence. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the pig's head, body, and front leg with light pink, leaving the eye whites and the background white.
- 2Color the pig's ear with rose pink, the snout with soft pink, and the inside of the open mouth with coral red, keeping the teeth white.
- 3Fill the fence posts and rails with light wood brown, leaving the gaps between the rails and the background white.
- 4Color the puddle, the splashes, and the mud spots on the pig with mud brown, starting with the big puddle and then the smaller droplets.
- 5Color the four hooves with charcoal gray, then add the dark mud spot on the rear and the spots on the belly and cheek.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker shade of light pink along the pig's belly and under the head to make it look rounder.
