A happy butterfly with curly antennae sits on the dotted middle of a big daisy-style sunflower. Rows of circles and rounded panels decorate its wings, giving little hands lots of small spaces to fill. The flower has two rings of pointed petals around a center made up of dozens of tiny round seeds. A long stem below holds large veined leaves, and a closed bud grows on its own stem at the lower right. Since there's no scenery behind it, the page feels clean and simple. Bright orange and purple wings will stand out against golden petals and a brown seed center. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the large sunflower petals and the flower bud petals with golden yellow, leaving the small gaps between them white.
- 2Color the butterfly's big wings in bright orange, then fill the inner wing shapes and the wing tips in soft pink.
- 3Paint the round center of the sunflower with warm brown, filling each seed circle one at a time.
- 4Color the stem and the big leaves in leaf green, and the small bud sepals in yellow green.
- 5Add sky blue dots on the orange wings and paint the butterfly's head and neck in pale yellow, leaving the background white. Optional: add a slightly darker shade along the edges of the leaves and petals for depth.
