At the edge of a quiet pond, a young tiger crouches with its tongue stretched out to lap up the water, and ripples spread across the surface. Its reflection looks back from below, which is a fun twist to color. Big round eyes, striped cheeks and chunky front paws make the cub look sweet and curious. Tall palm trees, leafy jungle plants and rocks frame a small waterfall in the background, while lily pads and a lotus flower float up front with a few smooth stones along the bank. Try warm oranges and soft browns on the tiger, then paler versions of the same colors on the reflection so it seems to shimmer. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the tiger's orange body, face, and paws using tiger orange, leaving the white stripes and the white sky uncolored.
- 2Color the water and its reflection with sky blue, adding pale blue for the lighter ripples and the waterfall.
- 3Fill the plants, bushes, and palm leaves with light green, grass green, and olive green to build up the jungle.
- 4Add light gray to the rocks and the small stones around the pond, and use slate gray for the darker rock shadows.
- 5Color the lily pads and lily leaves with grass green, and make the flower and tongue coral pink.
- 6Optional: Add a little burnt orange to the palm trunk and warm beige or cream to the inner ears and cheeks for soft shading.
