One tall feather stands in the middle of the page, with two smaller ones tucked in at the lower left and lower right. Every feather has a long, curved stem and a heart-shaped eye at the top, made of a round black pupil with several nested oval rings around it. Pointed, flame-like barbs sweep outward and upward from the stem on both sides, and each top edge ends in a wavy tip. The white background has no scenery, so kids can focus only on the feathers. Bold outlines are easy to follow, and the rings give lots of separate sections to fill. Start with deep teal in the ring closest to each pupil, move to bright green and royal blue outside it, and finish the barbs in gold or turquoise. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the large central eye ring in golden yellow, then fill the inner circle around the eye with royal blue.
- 2Fill the main feather body and the upper plumes with emerald green and lime green, using forest green for the darker side plumes.
- 3Color the two smaller peacock feathers at the bottom left and right, using grass green for their outer rings and lime green for their plumes.
- 4Fill the blue and slate gray rings on the side eyes, then add teal green and mint green to the small leaves along the stems.
- 5Leave the eye whites and the small eye highlights white, and color the dark pupils dark olive.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra darker green along the edges of the feathers to make them look more rounded.
