Night Scene with a Curious Pup and Owl, Wolves Printable
Coloring guide
Here a fluffy wolf sits in the grass with its head tipped back, smiling up at a round-eyed little owl on a leafy branch overhead. The curved branch grows from a tall trunk on the left, and a crescent moon hangs in the upper right, which makes this a nice quiet night-time pick. Leaves drift down around the wolf, and small grass tufts and a bush sit by its feet. Look for the thick chest ruff, the pointed ears and the big curled tail wrapped around its side. Bold outlines and open spaces keep it friendly for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and it's free to print. Soft grays and blues work for the wolf, warm browns for the owl, and a pale yellow moon will make the sky glow. Looking for more? A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- burnt orange
- pale tan
- chestnut brown
- leaf green
- cream white
- soft pink
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the fox: fill its body, tail, head, ears and paws with burnt orange, leaving the eye whites and the inner ear areas for later.
- 2Color the fox's chest fur and the cream belly patch, keeping the cream lighter so the fox looks fluffy.
- 3Fill the owl's face and belly with pale tan, then color its wings, branch and talons in chestnut brown.
- 4Add the leaves in leaf green, including the ones on the branch, the falling leaves and the small leaves near the ground.
- 5Paint the soft pink inner ears of the fox and the owl's beak in pale tan, and leave the eye whites and the tree and sky background white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the fox's tail and the owl's wing edges to give them more depth.
