Here comes a cheerful young knight in a plumed helmet, riding a friendly horse down a winding path toward a faraway castle. He grips the reins in one hand and a tall pole with a pennant flag in the other, and his cape flows out behind him. He's smiling big. The horse wears a decorated bridle with a round medallion and a saddle blanket, and its mane looks braided. Tufts of grass, small rocks, bushy trees and puffy clouds are scattered around, and the castle in the distance has pointed towers, little flags and an arched gate. The shapes are large and clear, so this free printable works well for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Red for the plume and flag, royal blue for the cape and chestnut brown for the horse will stand out nicely on green hills. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background: color the sky, leaving it white, then fill the grass hills and bushes with bright green and lime green.
- 2Color the horse in caramel brown, with dark brown for the hooves and lower legs, and sandy beige for the mane and tail.
- 3Fill the path with sandy beige, then color the castle walls and towers light gray and the roofs red.
- 4Color the knight's cape and flag red, the tunic and saddle blanket royal blue, and the helmet and armor light gray with steel gray accents.
- 5Add the golden buckle, stirrup, and blanket trim in golden yellow, and the boy's skin in sandy beige.
- 6Optional: Leave the horse's muzzle, helmet shine, and castle windows white as highlights, and add a little darker shading under the cape and horse belly.
