Perched upright on a tree stump, this smiling squirrel with big shiny eyes lifts a large acorn to its mouth with both paws. The fluffy tail curls up behind its back, and the tall ears have little tufts at the tips. The top of the stump shows wood-grain rings, and long bark lines run down the sides. Around the base are three spotted mushrooms of different sizes, two leafy fern branches and a few tufts of grass. Bold, clean outlines and roomy shapes make this a good free printable for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the squirrel's fluffy tail, head, and body using rust orange, leaving the eye whites bright white.
- 2Fill the acorn and the squirrel's arms and paws with golden orange, and color the stump and its rings in chestnut brown and soft tan.
- 3Color the squirrel's belly and inner ears with butter yellow and blush pink, and the mushrooms' caps in tomato red with their stems in cream.
- 4Add the leafy plants on both sides and the grass tufts at the base in forest green, grass green, light green, and olive green.
- 5Optional: Add a little darker shading inside the stump and along the tail with a deeper shade of the same color for more depth.
